Everything from firecrackers to silk paintings; woodcarvings to ceramics and puppets to pottery are made in these locations and can make unique gifts for friends and family at home; or as an exotic reminder of your trip to Vietnam. When paying a visit; you can chat with these artisans; and even try the handiwork yourself.Itinerary
This morning, we leave Hanoi at 8.30am and drive to Bat Trang where we can see firsthand the ancient art of ceramic making at a workshop. Many of the families producing these fine works of art have been doing so for at least 400 years.From Bat Trang we return to Hanoi and head south to the village of Ha Thai, which specializes in making lacquered bamboo products.
Nearby is Bang So village, which produces bamboo and rattan goods. We then find a shady place to enjoy our picnic lunch.
Following lunch we head to the silk village of Van Phuc where the most famous Vietnamese silk is made. We have a chance to explore this ancient village and purchase some silk should we wish. We return to Hanoi at about 5pm.
